Every block that you record fruit samples for should have a sample set created for it. Sample sets act as a grouping mechanism and allow individual samples to be recorded for an extended period of time. We recommend configuring all your sample sets well ahead of vintage in order to save time when it comes to recording analysis readings.
Accessing the Sample Set Console
To access the Sample Set Console:
- Click
More Options from the sidebar.
- From the Harvest tile, click Maturity Samples.
Creating a Sample Set
To create a sample set for a block:
- Click Add Sample Set.
The Create Sample Set window displays.
- Specify the details for the sample set.
- Code — The code can be auto-generated by the system, or entered manually. If you’d like assistance auto-generating the code, contact support.
- Grower/Block — Search for a grower, or any combination of grower, varietal, region, or block name. You can only use this field where blocks are configured in the system. After selecting a grower/block, the system automatically fills in the grower, variety, and region.
- Click Save.
Creating a Sample Set Using Quick Add Function
You can add several sample sets at once for a specific grower or region by clicking Quick Add.
From the Create Add Multiple Sample Sets window, check the blocks that you want to record fruit samples for, then complete the other details.
Recording a Fruit Sample Analysis
There are several ways to record a fruit sample analysis. You can:
Scanning the Sample’s Barcode
A fast way to record the results for a sample set is by clicking the barcode icon, then scanning the sample label. You can also enter the barcode sample code manually by entering bs followed by the sample code (e.g., bs31).
Using the CSV File
You can manage the arrival of sample sets and familiarize yourself with the codes by downloading a CSV file from vintrace. To download the CSV file, click CSV.
The CSV file provides you a work list to use to collect and process samples. You can enter the results into the file, then submit the sample set by by clicking Upload.
Entering the Sample Manually
To enter the sample manually, do the following from the Sample Set Console:
- Search for the sample set using the filter options at the top of the Sample Set Console.
- Click Add beside the sample set.
The Grape Sampling window displays with the default analysis template and Sample Set pre-selected.
- Enter the analysis results in the right area of the window. You can also select the type of sample from the Type list, and enter information about the rows, vines, and area of the sample area.
- Click Save.
Viewing Analysis Results
To report on sample data from the Sample Set Console, select the sample set, then click Reports. You can select any of the following options:
Sample Day Sheet
The Sample Day Sheet option produces a PDF or CSV file that groups related samples by grower, vineyard, and block for the provided date range. It’s useful for comparing data across multiple fruit sources within the system for arbitrary periods of time. To produce a Sample Day Sheet report, specify your filters, then click Generate.
Sample Analysis Stack Chart
This chart produces a line chart over time with each metric (e.g., ph, TA) reported on its own separate XY axis in a stacked formation. To produce a Sample Analysis Stack Chart, specify each metric you want to see, then click Show Chart. If you’ve purchased vintrace’s weather feed, you can also couple the metrics with weather statistics.
Sample Analysis Dual Axis Chart
This chart allows you to report on two metrics in a single chart providing for a closer correlation. To produce a Sample Analysis Dual Axis Chart, select any two metrics to correlate, or a metric and a particular weather statistic, then click Show Chart.
Sample Summary
This option provides you with a CSV file containing all analyses on each block. You can choose to filter this by vintage, owner, and grower.
Viewing Sample History and Making Corrections
To view the sample history and/or make corrections to a sample set:
- From the Sample Set Console, select the sample set.
- Click Show History.
The Sample History window displays a list of past samples. Click View to display more details for a sample.
From the Grape Sampling window, you can reverse the analysis by clicking Reverse/Undo. To edit the measurements, click Edit.
Recording a Tasting Note Against a Sample Set
To record a tasting note to a sample set from the Sample Set Console, select the sample set, then click Tasting Note.
Enter the information in the Tasting Note window.
Creating a Weighbridge Booking from a Sample Set
If you already have a sample set configured for a block of fruit, vintrace streamlines the creation of a weighbridge booking. To create a weighbridge booking for a sample set, select the sample set, then click Make Booking.
