In vintrace, there are two different methods to track the addition of water to a wine. You can either treat the water as an additive, or add water as a variety, then perform a bulk intake of water to a virtual tank. The method you choose depends on how you’d like water additions to show up in your compositions.
Treating Water as an Additive
This method allows you to set up additions so that the batch volume is automatically increased. For vintrace users in the US, this will also be accounted for on your TTB reports.
You can add water as an additive from the Winery Setup window (Setup Options > Production > Additive):
- Click Set Up in the sidebar.
- Click Winemaking.
- From the Additives tile, click Configure.
- Select your Water additive. The Additive window displays.
- Select the Increase Wine Volume checkbox.
- Select a reason from the Vol Change Reason list. US customers should select TTB - Water addition.
- Click Save.
After adding your Water additive, you can make the water addition using the Additive operation where you can enter the final volume for your vessel.
Transferring/Blending Water from a Virtual Tank
With this method, you can add water as a variety, then perform a bulk intake of water to a virtual tank. You can perform a regular transfer from the virtual water tank to any wine that requires a water addition.
This method affects the composition as the water variety will show up.
Since water is kept declared, you’ll want to do the transfer prior to declaring the wine to which it’s being added. Both components of a blend must be in the same tax state.
