Overview of the Appellations Feature

The Appellations feature provides a flexible way to track the origin of your wine, offering crucial visibility for all types of appellation sources—whether they are defined by geographic or regulatory boundaries. This helps ensure your composition reporting is both comprehensive and thorough.

How Appellations Composition Works

The Appellations feature treats each appellation as an independent label. When you assign multiple appellations to a single vineyard (for example, ‘California,’  ‘North Coast,’ ‘Napa Valley,’ ‘Rutherford’), the system does not assume a hierarchy between them.

Instead, any fruit harvested from that vineyard is considered to be 100% ‘California,’ 100% ‘North Coast’, 100% ‘Napa Valley’ and 100% ‘Rutherford’ simultaneously. This ensures that your composition reports can accurately reflect all applicable Appellation of origins for your wine. 

Setting Up Appellations

Before you can assign appellations, you must first create them in the system settings.

1. Click Set Up in the sidebar.
2. Search for Appellations.
3. From the Appellations tile, click Configure. 

4. Click New Appellation. The Appellation window displays. 

5. Specify the name for the appellation.
6. Click Save.

Assigning Appellations to a Vineyard

Once your appellations are set up, you can assign them to your vineyards.

1. Navigate to the desired block.
2. From the Vineyard/Grower tab, click the pencil icon.

3. Update the appellations as needed.
   • Click the search icon and this multi-select field to assign one or more appellations to the vineyard.
   • Click the plus icon to add appellations as needed.
4. Click Save.
5. The selected appellations will be visible on the block's details and pull through to intake details when receiving fruit.

Note: Appellations can also be added to vineyards in bulk update via our vineyards importer. 

Viewing and Reporting on Appellations

To easily view and report on your assigned appellations, you can find the data displayed:

Composition tab of Product page:

Use the gear icon to add the "Appellations" view to your Composition tab view to see list of all appellations and corresponding % total for the batch of each.

Bulk Stock Report:

1. Click Reports in the sidebar.
2. Click Bulk wine.
3. Check Composition details and select Appellations from the dropdown below.

Bulk Inventory by Allocation report:

Allocations appear as a column on the Bulk Inventory by Allocation Report.

Vineyards & Blocks page:

Appellations is available as a column on the Vineyards & Blocks page, which can be filtered and exported as a CSV or PDF.

Trial Blends:

Appellations will show on the trial blend display and print out on the trial blend worksheet.

BOLs:

Appellations will show on BOLs if the checkbox for "Show detailed composition" is enabled for Appellations.
